ANOINTING OILS

The Bible is literally full of references to fragrances, whether they be the special oil used for anointing priests and kings, the incense that was burned in the tabernacle and temple, or the perfumes that were used by the people of the Bible. Here are some of the fragrances that are mentioned in the lives of the Israelites: Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, frankincense, myrrh, aloes, and the finest spices (Song of Solomon 4:14).

OF INTEREST
The holy anointing oil described in Exodus: 30:22-25, was created from:
500 shekels (about 6 kg) of myrrh,
half as much (about 3 kg) of fragrant cinnamon,
250 shekels (about 3 kg) of fragrant cane, "kaneh bosm," (variously translated as calamus or cannabis),
500 shekels (about 6kg) of cassia, and
a hin (about 4 L) of olive oil.

The oil was used to anoint the vessels of the Tabernacle: 30:26, and the High Priest, and is traditionally regarded as the oil used by prophets to anoint Saul, David, and other kings of ancient Israel.

Looking for some Special Jewelry?

This wonderful hand made bracelet is comprised of six emerald cut blue topaz gemstones set in fired enameled filigree stations. The bracelet is 24k Gold over sterling silver, and features a safety chain. The blue topaz stones are set east to west, each in its own station or link.

Designer Barbara Garwood carefully draws each design, considering the unique skills of the artisans and her inspiration from the Word of God. Her ministry supports over 60 artisans in Mongolia, who work exclusively for Barbara manufacturing these exquisite pieces. Because of the high amount of work required to produce each piece, and the desires of younger generations to find success in major cities, it is no longer possible to attract new artisans into the trade. Over the next ten years, it is expected that production of these fine pieces will become increasingly difficult.

While in Mongolia, Barbara takes the time to personally share the Gospel whenever the opportunity arises. By purchasing these pieces, you are actively supporting the spread of the Gospel in Mongolia.

Happy Thanksgiving

"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good..." Psalm 100:4, 5a

Thanksgiving thoughts are the kind of thoughts that we should have all year long. For it is the folks with thankful hearts whose lives are filled with song. We should take time for kindness to those we hold most dear, and just extend a helping hand to others through the year. Let's set aside some quiet time and share it with a friend. For friendships bring a special joy and pleasure without end. So may the blessings of this day that I would ask for you, now fill you with Thanksgiving Peace that lasts the whole year through! - anonymous

From the staff at Logos to You and Yours, Have a very Joyous Thankgiving Day.

Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord.....

Advent Wreath
The season of Advent, the time of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas, begins on a different date each year. The First Sunday in Advent, 2009, is Sunday, November 29.

· November 29 - First Sunday of Advent
· December 6 - Second Sunday of Advent
· December 13 - Third Sunday of Advent
· December 20 - Fourth Sunday of Advent

Advent is a period of spiritual preparation in which Christians make themselves ready for the coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ. During this time, Christians observe a season of prayer, fasting and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope and joy.

Christians celebrate advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first coming to Earth as a baby, but also for his presence among us today through the Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end of time.

Come thou long expected Jesus....

Chocolate Filled Advent Calendar Observe Advent as a family by marking each day with a devotional time and prayer.

Use an Advent Calendar and/or Advent Wreath to help celebrate and remember that the real Reason for the Season is Jesus Christ.

Walking With God

I just finished reading John Eldrige's Walking With God and am now on to Wild At Heart. Eldridge has a way of redeeming a man's heart, showing him how to live the Christian life, without compromising his masculinity. I highly recommend both books! See the publisher's review of Walking With God and a link to a sample chapter below.....

“This is a series of stories of what it looks like to walk with God, over the course of about a year.”

So begins a remarkable narrative of one man’s journey learning to hear the voice of God. In Walking wtih God by John Eldredge, the details are intimate and personal. The invitation is for us all. What if we could hear from God . . . often? What difference would it make?

All day long we are making choices. It adds up to an enormous amount of decisions in a lifetime. How do we know what to do?

We have two options.

We can trudge through on our own, doing our best to figure it all out.

Or, we can walk with God. As in, learn to hear his voice. Really. We can live life with God. He offers to speak to us and guide us. Every day. It is an incredible offer. To accept that offer is to enter into an adventure filled with joy and risk, transformation and breakthrough. And more clarity than we ever thought possible.

Reach Your WORLD For Christ

Operation Christmas Child Operation Christmas Child is a ministry that extends far beyond a gift-filled shoe box. A primary goal of the project is to offer children the opportunity to participate in the Operation Christmas Child Discipleship Program, and to give every graduate a New Testament in their local language. In 2009-2010, an estimated 1.9 million children will have the opportunity to participate in the program, with an estimated 1.2 million of these boys and girls completing the series of Bible lessons.

Pray - Give - Get Involved

Veggie Tale St. Nicholas Why not make Operation Christmas Child a family project? Get the kids involved in blessing children for Christ all around the world. Have an Operation Christmas Child party and watch the new Veggie Tale movie starring Bob, Larry, Laura and all the gang teaching the importance of giving. Color the information pages and include them in each shoebox - wouldn't it be wonderful to make a friend through this marvelous outreach!

Shoeboxes are available at Logos Christian Bookstore and may be dropped off at the store or several other local collection points. If you need a box "pre-filled"; Logos has several to choose from for both boys and girls.

Heard Any Good Books Lately?

Christian Books on MP3 / CD

In today's mobile society many of us spend a huge amount of time traveling.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the average driving time to work is over 22 minutes. Many of us in the Northern Kentucky, greater Cincinnati area know that the average is longer.

What an OPPORTUNITY our travel time gives us to listen to a great book. Thanks to the recent efforts of several Christian publishers we now have a wide selection of books available in MP3 and/or CD format.

At Logos Christian Bookstore you will find audio books by many of today's best known authors. We carry the Symtio MP3 cards (shown above) and also have the ability, through the MyMedia Burn Barn, to burn CDs of many other titles. Through the Logos Christian Bookstore on the Web you can review and purchase many other books on CD or cassette.

Make your next drive time more enjoyable and productive - find a good book to listen to along the way.

Fall is Coming FAST!!

There sure has been a chill in the air this past week and without a doubt the season is beginning to change.

As I'm thinking about the change of seasons I'm reminded that often our seasons of relationship with God seem to change as well. Not that we really want them to, or that we intentionally do anything to cause them to change, but from time to time we find ourselves going through a definate change in our closeness to Him.

Have you ever felt the cooling off of your time together? Or better, how often have you experienced a decided increase in passion, warmth and closesness to Him? Through good times and bad times it is important that we continue to develop our walk with the Master so that we always sense His presence with us. He has promised to always be there, to never leave us. This means that even when our feelings or emotions change causing us to doubt, He is there.

As Christians living in the U.S.A., we have so many freedoms, even with the current bias against Christians, that it is inexcusable for us not to work at developing a close relationship to Christ. Simple things, like tuning the radio to a Christian station while commuting to and from work, getting up a few minutes early to read the Bible before beginning the day, and giving thanks before a meal can really help tune a heart toward God.

So many other resources are available, such as good Bible studies, commentaries, and great books by Christian authors to help us develop our faith. Get hold of some good literature and let it fill your soul with encouragement. Here at Logos we have a motto that "What goes into a mind comes out in a Life", let the writings of others help uplift and inspire you to a deeper walk.

Finding good friends that share the faith will also help deepen the faith, remember that sorrow shared is sorrow halved, and joy shared is joy doubled. Develop relationships with a good group of Christian friends and encourage each other to stay the course.

Finally, find a good group of believers and worship with them on Sunday morning. We are called to gather together to give Him Glory and Honor, Praise and Worship. Let the Holy Spirit work through the message to bring hope and conviction, cleansing and forgiveness and an ever closer presence of God in your life, and, as you draw closer to Him, you will realize that He is always near,

He Never Changes....

Pastor Appreciation Month

October is.....

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH!!

Now is the time to plan that special event to recognize your pastor for all of the hard work and devotion given to you and your congregation.

Put together something special to let he or she know just how much you appreciate everything they do. How about a party, everyone loves a party, where the entire church gathers to celebrate. Perhaps a card or small gift to offer ecouragement and thanks. Whatever you do it will be an appreciated source of inspiration for them to continue offering up their lives in service to the Lord.

Pastors do so much, usually without much acknowledgement, and the road can get rough. Do something special this month to let them know you care.

Are You Afraid?

When was the last time you faced fear right in the face and found it unbearable? Bad news from the boss, horrible diagnosis from the doctor, sad news from a loved one or financial problems when the bills outspent the income. Whatever the circumstance it is never simple.

Everyone of us at one at one time or another get caught up in the doubt caused by our fears. It's a human thing to do. Fortunately we have a Father who loves us and has promised to never leave nor forsake us in our times of need. And, quite remarkably, it is when we are in the midst of the calamity when He becomes the most clear to us.

Check out the latest by Max Lucado, Fearless, for some of the most down home, common sense advice and inspiration for facing your fears head on. We don't have to do it alone and if we let God help, the fears flee in the face of His light.

Saving Freedom

Are our Liberties Being Hi-Jacked?

I'm just wrapping up an interesting read, Saving Freedom, by Senator Jim Demint. As with several other sources, including James D. Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries and David Barton of WallBuilders.com - author of Original Intent, Sen. Demint spells out the very definite way in which our fore-fathers embraced Christian values as the basis for our constitution.

In his book, Sen. Demint relates the original intention of America's founders based upon historical evidence. He also expands upon how our current government is far from the original intent with examples and evidence that will make you think.

Senator Demint isn't the only politician that believes in what the majority of America knows is right, but he is one of the few who will risk staking his political career on those values.

Give the book a read. Let me know what you think.
